Best Way To Hold Your Blast Nozzle

Are you sure you’re holding the blast hose the best way?

The two most common manners of holding a blast hose are:

  • Over the shoulder
    • Holding it this way  (when you’re talking about 110-115 psi) it’s going to pull your arms back and if you can imagine working like that for six, eight, ten hours per day – your shoulders are going to wear out much more quickly.
    • Also there’s a safety issue as holding it like exposes your neck and throat should there be a hose explosion near the coupling.
  • Under the arm
    • The other way many of you were taught was holding it like this this again is another way to increase your fatigue as it’s constantly wanting to pull back on your chest and both of your shoulders causing wear and tear and when you’re down far like this it’s harder to do a pattern back and forth or up or down

However, the best, most productive manner is to loop it between your legs and cradle it into your chest so the pressure exuding from the nozzle will be counterbalanced by your full body weight.

This is also more productive, because the pressure coming from the nozzle naturally influences the nozzle to veer upward, so basically all you’re really focusing on, if you’re doing a vertical pattern is to maneuver the nozzle downward on the down-stroke, and let the thrust naturally directs the nozzle on the up-stroke.
