Reduce Overspray 1-2-3-4

Industry professionals all agree that over spray is a waste of both a time and money.  But there are simple adjustments and tactics that can reduce over spray and put profits back into your pocket.  Below are the 4 simplest suggestions to help maximize your coating and minimize waste.

Tip 1

Pressure is needed to spray – but too much creates over spray.  Adjust pressure so that it will effectively atomize the paint – but do not increase it from that level.  The higher you dial it; the more over spray will occur.

Tip 2

To reduce pressure even further without compromising atomization – heat your paint.  This will assist in an even flow and allow you to further control pressure.

Tip 3

When spraying in windy outside environments, spray vertically – up and down. Wind typically skims surfaces in a horizontal direction and simply by spraying vertically, you reduce the column of paint with which the wind can interfere.  Less paint will be in the wind stream and therefore less paint will scatter as over spray.

Tip 4

When spraying, maintain a perpendicular angle with the surface.  Painting at angles tends to disproportionately apply the coating to the steel surface.  Having to recoat thin patches wastes paint.
